After Visiting Rome and Florence on our European trek, we stopped off in Venice. It is a unique and beautiful city that I have been lucky enough to visit twice, 14 years apart, which is why the quality of the photos vary. It is a very photogenic place, and I have only been in a small part of the city. I would like to go back a third time and explore the places away from the tourists. The view of St Stephen's Tower and the Doges Palace when taking a Water Taxi into Venice. [June 2007]
Not only are the big wide canals in Venice impressive, the smaller 'back canals' are just as interesting even though their vibe is very diferent. Here, Gondolas are waiting in the back canals for business. [June 2007]
A typical small Venetian Church - taken just because Venice is full of these eye-catching buildings on the edge of canals [June 2007]
Another Venetian Church, seeming in need of some repair [June 2007]
Luxury Yachts are moored by the side of the main canal in Venice. There are obviously a lot of rich people in Venice... [June 2007]
My elder daughter trying to strike up a conversation with an Italian pidgeon, but the language barrier seems to get in the way. [June 2007]
St Stephen's Tower dominates St Mark's Square in Venice. It is indeed an impressive building considering it's age. [June 2007]

Some of the largest cruiseliners in the world sail down the main canal of Venice after stopping off to let their wealthy patrons do some shopping. This is a close up of one of these massive ships. [June 2007]
Another 'back canal' of Venice, with speedboats 'parked' by the backdoors of houses [June 2007]
The Doges Palace in Venice, one of the most distinctive building in the city and in good nick considering it is very, very old! [Sept 1993]
Venice in the morning, taken after very heavy rain the night before [Sept 1993]
Venice in the morning again, the low sun highlighting the waters of the canal [Sept 1993]
This was taken as we sailed past the biggest ship I have ever seen - it was great to sail to close to it. As you can see, someone wanted to get even closer than we were! [June 2007]
