Taken from the Slovenian town of Kranskja Gora, these are the mountains that mark the border between Slovenia and Italy. Slovenia is a small country, part of the former Yugoslavia. It's very pretty. [June 2007]
This is a view of the river that runs through the French town of Annecy. It's very picturesque. I really liked this medieval building dividing the river - I was taken by it's unusual 'wedge' shape. It looks like a ship. [Aug 1999]
This is the famous Ponte de Vecchio (Vecchio bridge) in Florence, Italy. It's hunderds of years old but it still supports apartments and shops. [Sept 1993]
This is the wonderful fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein in the Bavarian region of Germany. It is the castle used to film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. It is built on this rock in the middle of a valley. This photo was taken from up a hill just across from the castle. It's a fantastic area. [Sept 1993]
This is the town of Innsbruck in Austria, where the 1976 winter olympics were held (I think). The view of the Austrian alps from the town was good. Salzburg was nicer than Innsbruck but I didn't take any photos in Salzburg- I left my camera in the Youth hostel. [Sept 1993]
This is a view from one of the main bridges in the city of Luxembourg - capital of the country of Luxembourg. I included this photo not because it's particularly good, but because it was the only photo I took in Luxembourg to prove I was there! [Aug 1999]
The Vatican City, the world's smallest country, viewed from the Dome of St Peter's in Rome. Some of the greatest pieces of art in the world lie within. [Aug 1993]
Taken in Copenhagen, Denmark. Not a good photo at all but I was amused by the idea of a Danish bookshop with 'boghandel' in the title. What a fun book that must be. One thing that really impressed me about Denmark was how fluent everyone was in English. Even late at night in a Danish McDonalds, a drunken heavy metal fan was swearing and being aggressive - in perfect English. [Sept 1993]
Everyone slags off Belgium as being dull - which it is - but it does have one thing going for it - well, three. One is the beer, another is the chocolate and the other is the town of Brugges - the so-called Venice of the North. It is nice. [Sept 1993]
Not a great pic of an Amsterdam canal but I didn't take too many photos in Amsterdam...Anne Frank's house was somewhere near here. [Sept 1993]
The spire of a small Slovenian church, typical of the style in this part of Europe. [June 2007]
Although you can't tell from the photo, it rained the whole time we were in Sweden. Who'd want to go out in a pedalo in Sweden is anyone's guess. The thing that struck me in Malmo, Sweden was how open people were about browsing through hardcore porn mags in newsagents. There was no 'top shelf' - every shelf had this stuff on it. Fair play to them. [Sept 1993]
In one of the courtyards of the Vatican City, we saw these odd sculptures, very modern looking for a place as historic as the Vatican. One is tempted to say it shows the Vatican City is a load of balls, but that would be inappropriate - it was actually great, especially the Raphael fresco's and the Sistine Chapel - which is smaller than you imagine and full of Japanese tourists (maybe that's why it seemed smaller). [Aug 1993]
This is a photo of a small Alpine town in Slovenia. I liked it because it sat half way up a small mountain, all on it's own. It looked like one hell of a walk to get home. It might look a little faint, but that's the air for you when you're up high. [June 2007]
This is the "Hofbrauhaus", a beer house in Munich, Germany. In the Bavarian tradition, we spend a night here, drinking strong German beer in Steins - that held at least two pints - being served by large-breasted wenches. Or maybe that was the beer. Anyway, the barmaids had the right costumes on. We got a little tipsy and fell into a fountain on the way home. This makes up for the dull photo. It was a great night. I think. [Sept 1993]
Looking across a lake to the Slovenian Alps [June 2007]
Another, higher view of Neuschwanstein Castle, in the German region of Bavaria. This gave us a great view of the valley as well. [Sept 1993]
